About Us
Significant health literacy gaps exist within prison populations compared to the general public. This disparity creates substantial challenges for both People Living in Prisons (PLP) and the staff who support them.
Research consistently shows that PLP experience:
Lower Health Literacy: Difficulty finding, understanding, and using health information.
Higher Health Risks: Increased incidence of mental health conditions and greater risk of communicable diseases (e.g., Hepatitis B/C, STIs).
Staff Training Gaps: Custodial and prison service staff often lack specialized training to effectively manage these complex inmate health needs.
Recognizing these urgent needs, the PARTNER project was established. We aim to bridge these health literacy gaps in prisons by providing tailored knowledge, skills, and tools to both PLP and prison staff. Our goal is to improve health awareness, disease prevention, and health management within correctional facilities.
Furthermore, enhancing prison health education is a vital component of supporting successful reintegration into society post-release.
